The two parallel stories are continued, connected only by the magic word Meanwhile. Thor, Moondragon and Hawkeye are still in 1873. The rest of the Avengers are in the present day, still in a trap created by Doctor Spectrum. In the two page interlude we see them escape from the cage.
Meanwhile, in 1873.....
Thor, Moondragon and Hawkeye approach Kang's fortress, accompanied by the Two-Gun Kid. Thor goes in his human identity as Donald Blake so that he won't be recognised. Kang defeats Moondragon, Hawkeye and the Two-Gun Kid while Donald Blake sneaks up on him. He changes into Thor and engages in battle. Kang obviously isn't prepared for a close-up fist fight. He has to draw on more and more power.
Kang overloads and destroys himself. He's finally gone. Immortus says that if Kang no longer exists, he too will no longer exist. He fades away. Moondragon sheds tears for Immortus.
The question is, can someone who constantly travels backwards and forwards through time ever truly cease to exist? That's something the Avengers will have to figure out for themselves.
