WWF 1996.10.07 - Monday Night Raw

I've just noticed that Monday Night Raw has taken place at the same arena three weeks in a row.

At the beginning of the show Jim Ross is missing from the commentary table. He enters the arena accompanying the fake Diesel to the first match.

Match 1. Wild Man Marc Mero vs "Diesel" (non-title match)

The two wrestlers are evenly matched, but Marc Mero wins by disqualification when the fake Marc Mero intervenes.

It might interest you to know that the fake Diesel is Glenn Jacobs, who later became known as Kane.

There's a vignette of the Undertaker digging a grave for Mankind.

Match 2. Tag team match, The Smoking Gunns vs The Rockers

The Smoking Gunns win. The commentators are talking about everything except the match.

There's a vignette of The Roadie telling everyone that he sang Jeff Jarrett's songs, so Jeff's whole musical career is a fake.

Vader comes to the ring with his manager, Jim Cornette. Jim Ross promises Vader that if he can defeat Sycho Sid he'll be given a title shot against the reigning WWF champion, Shawn Michaels. This isn't good enough for Jim Cornette. He says that Vader should be given a title shot immediately.

Match 3. The Sultan vs Aldo Montoya

It's interesting that Aldo Montoya wasn't announced when he entered the ring, suggesting that he was a jobber who was intended to lose. This is strange, because he'd already been in the WWF for three years and had repeatedly appeared on television. Nevertheless, the Sultan won by submission.

Match 4. Goldust vs Sycho Sid

Goldust is accompanied to the ring by his manager Marlena, who's actually his wife. There are often relationships in the WWF/WWE which are kept secret on screen. As I've said before, it's all a soap opera. Marlena makes repeated attempts to distract Sid, first by flirting with him, then by blowing smoke into his mouth, but Sid wins the match eventually.

What's wrong with Sid? How can be resist a woman like Marlena?

Maybe he doesn't like women who smoke?

Whatever the reason, Marlena is disappointed.

After the match Vader comes to the ring and attacks Sid.
