Location: Market Square Arena, Indianapolis, Indiana
Commentators: Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross
Match 1. Steve Austin vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley
A match was scheduled between Steve Austin and Savio Vega, but Savio can't compete because of an injury. Steve Austin claims that he's lying, and he's just afraid to face him. The replacement is Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
Triple H arrives with yet another beautiful date. How does he do it? The girl is noticeably nervous as they walk to the ring, probably because the fans are booing on both sides.
Both wrestlers are unpopular with the audience and are booed by the crowd. (This PPV took place before the standard faces-vs-heels matches of the 2000's). Both of them take breaks from the match to argue with the fans in the front row.
Jim Ross has problems with his microphone. It keeps cutting out. A technician is called, who claims that the microphone is in order, but it obviously isn't. Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler do the commentary without Jim Ross.
Mr. Perfect arrives and takes the girl away. This annoys Triple H, but the match continues. Steve Austin wins after a Stone Cold Stunner.
Match 2. Tag team championship, Bulldog and Owen Hart vs Smoking Gunns
The Smoking Gunns lost the tag team championship at the last PPV, "Mind Games" on 22nd September. At the time their manager was Sunny, but she fired them after they lost. Billy Gunn is enamoured with Sunny and wants to win the title back to impress Sunny. Bart Gunn tells him it's all about the title, so he should forget Sunny.
Jim Ross's microphone still isn't working properly. It keeps cutting out, and when he can be heard he has a ridiculous high pitched voice.
Sunny is watching the match from the back room.
She doesn't take her eyes off the monitor for a moment.
Does she want Billy and Bart to win the title back?
No. She applauds when the British Bulldog and Owen Hart win the match and retain the title. Billy had his chance with Sunny. Now she's moved on.
Jim Ross goes in the ring and tells everyone that Vince McMahon has sabotaged his microphone to stop him talking. Now he's had enough. He storms out of the arena.
Vince has no idea what Jim is talking about. Or does he?
Mr. Perfect replaces Jim Ross at the commentary table as a guest commentator, and guess what? The microphone is working perfectly. I just wonder where he left Triple H's girlfriend.
Match 3. Intercontinental title match, Marc Mero vs Goldust
Marc Mero defeats Goldust to retain the Intercontinental title. Triple H enters the arena to threaten Mr. Perfect, but the referee sends him away. After the match, Mr. Perfect celebrates with Marc Mero and his manager Sable.
Surprisingly, Marlena didn't get involved in the match.
Match 4. Sycho Sid vs Vader
The winner of this match will get a title shot at the next PPV.
Shawn Michaels arrives to do the guest commentary. He says that he came because he felt bored on his day off.
The match is very close, but Sycho Sid eventually wins. Shawn congratulates Sid and says he's looking forward to fighing him next month. It's good when wrestlers can be friends.
Outside of the arena Doc Hendrix attempts to interview Sycho Sid, but Jim Ross rips the microphone out of his hand. Jim plays on Sid's fragile mental state, trying to turn him against Shawn Michaels.
Match 5. Undertaker vs Mankind
Vince McMahon repeatedly says that this is a match not sanctioned by the WWF. It's taking place because the two wrestlers requested it, but the WWF takes no responsibility for anything that might happen. There's no disqualification. Pinfalls and submissions don't count. The match can only be won by one of the wrestlers burying the other.
It's a hard match that takes place mostly outside of the ring. During their time in the WWF the two wrestlers often fought, and their fights were always spectacular. As a fan of both wrestlers, I can say that they were perfectly suited to one another. They hurt one another intensely, but they never once broke out of character. In one famous match (which I'll get to eventually) Mankind was knocked unconscious. The officials rushed in, ready to stop the match, but he woke up and continued as if nothing had happened.
The two wrestlers throw one another into the grave, always fighting their way back out. Eventually Mankind can't escape, and the Undertaker shovels earth onto him. The referee declares the Undertaker the winner, but he won't stop shovelling more earth onto Mankind.
An unknown masked wrestler entered the arena and attacked the Undertaker. Then he dug Mankind out of the grave and threw the Undertaker in. Mankind and the masked man began to shovel earth onto the Undertaker. They were joined by Goldust, Triple H, Crush and Bradshaw, who all shovelled earth into the grave as fast as they could. That's a strange team, united only by their dislike for the Undertaker. They don't stop until the grave is full.
Thunder roars, and they all back away. A bolt of lightning hits the grave, and the Undertaker's hand rises out of the grave.
